anyone used a bell to train your puppy to alert you he/she needs to go out?
Wondering if anyone has experience or tried using a bell to house train your puppy. “Bell training” meaning, training them to ring a bell when they need to go out and potty. Has it been successful and easy for the puppy to learn? And what type of bell seems to work best?
They sell bells that are made for this. They hang off of the wall, or a door, and the dog uses them. Be wary that you don’t purchase a bell that looks like it could either cut the dog’s paw, or has holes the nails could get lodged in!
It depends on the individual dog. If you have one of the more intelligent breeds, such as a border collie or a poodle, you’ll have a much easier time than if you’re doing this with a basset or another breed that generally tends to be headstrong with training.
It’s not easy for a baby dog to learn. But it’s possible. Be prepared for potty accidents, no matter what route you take. Sometimes they “lose control” from fear or excitement. When they’re super young, they just don’t have all that much bladder or bowel control.

ps- You may find that your dog “lies” and hits the bell to go outside for a walk, because they feel like walking. You may also find that the dog just likes to hit the bell, hehehe. It depends, again, on the individual animal and of course on how dedicated you are to training them!
