dog troubles! should i use a dog repellent?

I live in a basement suite and to get into my place i go through a backyard. the upstairs people ( the owners) own a dog that roams free in the back yard. I have only been there about 5 times in the past two months and each time the dog has attacked me! The first time the owner ran out but it had already biten my Fiance. She called the dog off and brought it inside. The other times the dog has not biten but rather held me hostage until the owners come outside! Im absolutely terrified of this dog! When the owner was outside this last time the dog came charging at me and almost attacked but the owner got it off right away! From my prospective the owner is not doing enough. she said the dog is going into obedience school but this is not an obedience issue in my opinion. options for sprays or other methods?

Note: I do not want to harm the dog, i just want to scare it away from coming near me. The owner is not doing enough for my safety and so i need to take it into my own hands.

Have you been calling animal control? If the animal is dangerous and attacking people it should be reported. Getting a nice fine from police (or at least a warning from Animal Control,) should help encourage the owners to control their dog.

I would buy a can of pepper spray. If the dog attacks you don’t hesitate to use it- being nice won’t save you from the permanent scars a dog bite will cause.

You shouldn’t -have- to take the dog problem into your own hands- that’s what animal control is for. More than likely if YOU are having a problem so are other people- and next time someone is bitten- it could be a child.
