Hire A Professional Dog Trainer or Do It Yourself?

The decision to train a dog is smart and very beneficial to you and your dog.  Most people are already aware of the importance of training a dog.

The problem is many are not sure if they should hire a professional dog trainer or train their dog on their own.

Hiring a professional dog trainer means you won’t have to learn how to train your dog.  The professional will do all the training for you.  Once trained you will just need to continue the training to reinforce what your dog has learned.

Professional dog training can be costly.  Individual private training can cost on average $240 – $600 for 6 weeks of training. Group classes anywhere from $40 – $125 for 4 – 8 weeks.

On the other hand choosing to train your dog on your own is less expensive.  If you’re on a budget doing it yourself is a smart alternative. Typically you can purchase a dog training book for as little as $39. You will be able to teach your dog the same commands that a professional dog trainer would teach.

Of course if you are in need of more advanced training…perhaps for service dogs for persons with disabilities you should seek the help of a professional.

Professional dog trainers are very good at what they do.  But if you are unwilling or unable to financially commit to professional training then getting a high quality dog training guide is an excellent alternative.

Besides the bond you will build with your dog during training is priceless.  Your dog will enjoy learning from his pack leader.  

Remember to your dog you are the center of his universe.  Pleasing you is always at the top of his list.  The two of you will create great memories during this time.  So give it a try and have fun!
