What Exactly Causes Head Lice?
Head lice are most common and you can usually see school children complaining about them. They are small, crawling parasites that feed on human blood and are known as Pediculus humanus capitis. They cause intense itching and an infestation that lead to shame and distress in public places. These head lice can’t be easily treated. You have to take proper care of yourself and your surroundings.
Causes head lice
The wingless head lice parasites feed on human blood for every three to six hours. Lice and their eggs or nits may be white, cream or tan in color. Their claws are adapted for clinging to hair or clothing and this makes them to crawl easily from one person to another.
Close interaction: The head lice are usually transmitted through head to head contact. For example, the school children play and work very closely such that their heads come in contact as a result the normal child gets easily infested from the lice infected ones.
Sharing things: Head lice can also be easily transmitted by sharing of infested towels, clothing, bedding, hats, combs, brushes, hair accessories, headphones, pillows, and stuffed toys.
Lice do not jump, hop, or fly and they do not live on pets. They cannot survive without a human host for more than 10 days.
Pediculosis
The louse infestation found on the heads and necks of men and women is called as pediculosis. The sores and red protrusions that appear on the scalp and neckline can be easily seen. When a louse sucks the blood, leaves a small amount of saliva. This causes an allergic reaction and creates bumps and sores similar to that of lesions caused by mosquitoes.
Pediculosis Capitus is very contagious. A person with a louse infestation will have nits, commonly known as lice eggs. These are tightly attached to the hair and scalp and looks like dandruff. Sometimes small dark color dots can be seen on the hair and pillow case. These dark dots are nothing but the louse excrement and are easily visibly on blond or white colored hair and pillow cases.
Treatment
If your child complains about lice, take it seriously and treat her immediately. It is better to remove all the lice and nits that you see. Comb her hair daily to remove out the lice. You can use vinegar to out the nits, and then wash your hair with regular shampoo. Apply ointments as they are good in removing lice from to the scalp and wash the hair with shampoo regularly. Natural remedies and herbal treatment also works on and cures lice completely.
Make sure you wash your bed linens, clothing, and stuffed toys with hot water and dry them out in the sun. The above mentioned are the exact causes of head lice, follow the tips provided and keep your child from lice.
