How high of a fence for a pet free-range chicken?

I am wondering how high of a fence is required to keep a pet free-range chicken in the yard? I don’t want to do a new fence, just see if my current one is good enough. Also, does a pet chicken need to go somewhere safe inside at night? (no dogs or predators have access to the yard.)

What might be good is to buy a dog kennel with a roof. Chickens can fly and get out. And yes it should have a safe place to sleep.
