What’s a good dog clipper for a poodle mix with very thick hair?
My poodle’s hair is too thick for the clippers bought at Target – I need to get somethng in the $130-150 range and I’ve been researching but I hear both the Oster and Andis get too hot too fast.
I need something with a 4000 spm that doesn’t get hot fast. Anyone?
(just looking for people with experience, not guesses, I can guess myself) Thanks.
I have a 40 clipper I use now and have been the last year that never gets hot but I finally realized I need to get something easier for the dog, his hair is just too thick for things. I was hoping to find the better version of these things (I got them at Target, I forget the brand – conair maybe?)

I’m looking at a $120 Oster on amazon right now.
All blades are going to get hot. The shorter the blade, the quicker it gets hot. A 3S will take upwards of 10-15 minutes before it gets hot. A 40 will be hot within two minutes. You can buy some Kool Lube to spray the blade every so often. Or you could buy a couple of the same blades and rotate. In our salon we put the hot blade on a cool piece of metal.
Andis and Oster are both great clipper brands. We use Andis in our groomer salon, if you have a matted Poodle mix you are probably going to need a 7F to clip down the coat. You MIGHT be able to get away with a 5F. Clippers come with a 10, I wouldn’t use that blade at risk of clipper burn, so you’ll need to buy another blade for the haircut.

ETA: I’m not sure which 40 clipper you are referring to. If you were to shave a dog with this blade you would probably give them serious burns. It’s surgical blade, I only use it to shave the pads of feet. Conair is definitely a low quality brand.
