Gears of War is an action video game classic and the sequel, Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 is continuing the tradition. The formula of incredible graphics, solid cover system and cinematic presentation that made the original a success is repeated along with new weapons, enemies and environments. This provides an all new yet familiar game. Besides the 10 hour campaign players have the option of multiplayer upgrades, new modes and additional maps and the ability to support 10 players instead of 8.
The campaign in Gears of War 2 features a different look from the original. The first game featured war torn cities and falling monuments, the new version is mainly set in outdoor spaces and underground caverns. Players will find mountains, fluorescent lights and huge enemies that are so massive that you must destroy them from the inside out. The different look is a change but the brilliant graphics maintain the general atmosphere created in Gears of War. The atmosphere of an excellent and challenging first person shooter video game.
Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 is great as a full campaign game, multiplayer or alone. But the competitive multiplayer function has been improved to the point that many gamers prefer it over the campaign. The selection of maps and game modes gives players much more variety and action. The new multiplayer maps take inspiration from the basic locations in the campaign, with environmental effects like razor sharp rain to kill anyone exposed to shake things up and provide more action. Gamers will find plenty of action and challenging missions within both the campaign game and the multiplayer levels.
Warzone, Execution, Assassination and Annex modes are included on multiplayer just as in the original with the addition of King of the Hill, Submissions, Guardian and Wingman. The new and most addictive feature in Gears of War2 Xbox 360 is a multiplayer mode that is best described as a cross between single and multiplayer. A team of 5 COG’s take on Locust enemies. As long as at least one member of the team is alive at the end of the round the whole team will respawn and face progressively more difficult enemies. This tense and fast paced mode is a great challenge for a group of friends. Each round brings something new, and each time you play the battles will be different because of 5 individual players on the team.
For beginners and those who don’t have internet connections there are 5 training missions and bot support in all modes except Horde. This means that gamers who haven’t played the original Gears of War can still maneuver through the campaign. Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360 may seem to have a lot that is similar to the original, however the new environments and darker storyline along with the epic scale provides a whole new experience. New weapons, melee attacks and co-op options make an interesting and challenging game.
In the genre of action video games and first person shooters Gears of War 2 stands out from the crowd with all new action and multiplayer features, making it a great follow up to the classic Gears of War. With a rating of Mature due to the violence the Gears of War download is one of the most downloaded first person shooter games.
