How do i brush out a dogs under coat?

I help this animal shelter by grooming/bathing dogs. I did my first dog today and relized most of these dogs probably havent been brushed in a LONG time so they have TONS of under coat hair. I brushed this dog before/during/after its bath, and got a trash can full of hair. I still had hair coming out by the time he didnt want to be brushed any more. i also clipped his nails that were really long. I didnt want to clip his quick, so i told the staff to have someone clip his nails in another day or so so that eventually the quick would be short and so his nails would be short. They had a slicker brush, this brush that was round and had tiny teeth, a regular brush, a hair rake, and a flea comb. what should i use first? last? ect. thanks.

I would use undercoat rake first, then regular brush before bath. Slicker brush is for after a bath but start regular then finish with slicker & comb. Flea comb is only for bath use to remove fleas from head/ears if needed. You can use regular brush on coat once coat is shampooed up with a small amount of conditioner or use the force dryer to help loosen up coat. Rinse well & blow out coat stopping every 5 min or so to brush out. There is only so much that can be done in 1 grooming & pet shouldn’t have to suffer from lack of care.
