What do I need to give my maltese a puppy cut?
I want to start grooming my maltese myself and I want to know what I need. I am looking toward getting the Oster A5 clippers, but need to know what other things I need (other blades, combs, guards,etc..) Please help me. I would rather spend a good amount of money now and get all this stiff then keep taking her to the groomers at $40/session.
By the way: she is pretty matted, how should I go about clipping her? Should I cut the mats out first?

How do I clip around her eyes? What size blade do I need?
You have a couple of very good answers, but I would reiterate about clipping around the eyes. A professional groomer actually hurt my daughter’s Maltese’s eyes with a clipper, so when I do my little girl, I leave the shortest clipper blade guard on for her safety. I hold her face very tightly, too. You just never know when these little ones might jerk while you’re holding them, and the consequences would be just awful!
