why is my dog chewing her foot?

My dog seems to be favoring her back foot, and licking the hair right off her foot. Does anyone know of a skin issue or anything that would make her foot sore? This is a new issue, and my vet is closed for the night.

This is a bad habit that dogs, especially puppies and bored dogs, get. It’s equivalent to someone sucking on their thumb or biting their nails or something like that.
It should be stopped, because they might get an infection called “wet paw” due to the constant chewing of their paws. The wetness of their saliva pus the bacteria that gets trapped in there between the pads and the hair might cause an infection, just like if water gets in their ears and is not dried.
You should find a solution, either by her more toys or walk her more often, or get her a cone for her neck to teach her not to bite her paw, or if it gets worse or doesn’t stop, take her to the vet.
Usually my dog does this for a while but then stops and I dry her paw with a paper napkin, which is another thing you could do.
