Making Money, Not In, But Off Spare Time
Can a person be truly happy working all the time? According to experts, that is not the case. One needs to rest, take a day off or just find some spare time if they want to be truly successful. Every expert from Deepak Chopra to the bible not just recommend but require restful time in order to be happy.
It makes sense that after taking days to create the world, rest was needed. We should take that as an example of what to do. There are plenty of examples throughout religion and literature. From meditation to working out, re-souling and rejuvenation is a key theme of self-help. So, since we obviously need spare time, we also obviously need something to do in it and retailers and service providers who can fulfill that need make quite a bit of money doing it.
Most people don’t actually do nothing in their free time. Some decide to take up a hobby. Then a need arises to supply that hobby and a booming business is born. For instance, scrapbooking has become incredibly popular lately and the purveyors of scrapbook pages have, in turn become incredibly successful.
Rest is also an inappropriate word for another common past time people engage in on their days off. Exercise is very popular and also highly recommended as a stress reliever. The workout market is incredibly healthy as treadmills fly off the sales floor a nice black sport watch fly off the shelves day in and day out.
Along with exercise, dieting is also a popular activity. Especially for those who don’t actually work out but sue their spare time to sit and watch TV. These couch potatoes find themselves more stressed because they are gaining weight. So, they go out and buy weight loss books. So, purveyors of diet books and food do very well selling to spare time.
What happens without rest and rejuvenation? Stress an anxiety increase, people get sick and tired and they begin to look for ways to feel better. People can’t function without a break in their day to day toil. The first fringe benefit in any job negotiation is vacation time.
Therefore, humankind will always need and find spare time. Which then means, they will always have a need to fill that time. If you are in the business of sales and are clever, you can and will find a service or product to sell to this need for filling time when you are not actually doing anything. So, think hard about what people do when they don’t want to do anything – go along on trips, spy in gyms and mosques, consider what you do on your day off and it is guaranteed you will find a market to tap.
