Is getting a special ferret ear cleaner necessary, or would just a plain normal Q-tip work perfectly fine?

I agree with the answerer who said that the ear-cleaning solution isn’t necessary, but it certainly does help. It’s some kind of alcohol solution that breaks down the gunkiness in the ear and makes it easier to remove. Whatever you use to clean the ears, solution or water, don’t use a dry Q-tip. Ferrets’ ears are very sensitive and and dry Q-tip can be very rough and painful on the delicate ear skin.
