Learn How To Make Gel Candles
Everyone loves the beautiful scent and aura that comes from burning candles. Gel candles are some of the most lovely but they can be expensive to buy. If cost is an issue, which for many of us it is, you could make your own gel candles. If you think that making your own gel candles sounds complicated, then you’re wrong, it is very easy. Here is a simple guide on how to make gel candles.
First, you want to make sure you have all the right ingredients. You can buy a gel candle kit or buy them all seperately. If you are a beginner, you might want to buy a kit. If you’re not very ambitious, then you can purchase a gel candle kit that may even include a guide on how to make gel candles. If you want to do it all yourself, then you will need gel, zinc wicks, essential oil fragrance, liquid color dye, embeds, and something glass to use for a mold. You can choose whether you want embeds in your candles and you can use a mold other than glass, but be sure that it’s non-flammable.
Garage sales and thrift stores are great places to find interesting candle molds.First you need to hot glue the wick into place and then melt the gel. Temperature is the key when you melt your gel. Make sure to use a good thermometer so that the temperature stays at 200 degrees. Cutting your gel into pieces will help it melt more evenly. You also should be sure to use a stainless steal pot.
Once the gel looks like syrup you can add the dye and the fragrance. You only need about a third of a teaspoon of fragrance per mold. Heating the mold in the microwave will help decrease bubbles. Also, you want to put the embeds in the container before you pour in your hot gel. Finally, you can pour in the gel and hold your wick upright with a pencil. Then just let the candle cool.
Making your own gel candle is very easy if you know the right steps on how to make gel candles. If you have any questions you can always look online or ask craft stores for help. If your first candle doesn’t turn out the way you want, then you should try again. Practice makes perfect with anything new that you try. After you become an expert gel candle maker, you can give them as gifts or even sell them. Enjoying them yourself is always a good option, as well.
