Single, high end vid card or dual, mid-grade vid cards?

I’m building a new computer for my wife. It will mainly be used for photo editing, Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom, and the occaisional streaming TV show; she doesn’t play games at all. I got a Core2 Duo 6750 CPU with an Asus P5K-E mobo and 4 gigs of decent ram (She’s still using 32bit XP, so will only be using 3 of the 4sticks of ram actually.) The onboard graphics are probably sufficent for her needs, but I just can’t leave good enough alone. The mobo supports dual sli vid cards. My question is, is a single, high end vid card or dual mid-level vid cards better?

A single high end card is ALWAYS better than 2 mid-range cards. The only card you should ever think about using for SLI is the flagship card in the series.

Last time i checked, the 8800GT is one of three flagship cards right now (8800 GTS 512, 8800 GTX). And yes, 2x 8800GT will KILL a GTX for about the same price…it’s the only SLI setup worth investing in.
