Do Not Let Your Anniversaries Go To The Dogs
The invitation was really cute with a picture of the happy couple on the front. It showed the pair in matching outfits and they both had a share of a frisbee in their mouth. Our neighbors are keen on celebrating anniversaries and this one was for their identical dogs. It certainly got me thinking about how I celebrate my important anniversaries.
The invitation was adorable and made at the local printers. The insert was a picture they made on their computer. The party itself was amazing. Doggy decorations included little doghouses as place name cards. Appetizers were shaped like dog bone treats.
The game room was also the dogs lair. There was a picture of humans playing poker above the foam dog bed. There were bright ensembles of dog clothing stored in the attached laundry room. There was even a portable space heater so the floor would not be too cold for their furry friends.
After the cake and ice cream for humans I started thinking about my important anniversaries. I vowed that I would put at least as much effort into it as the dogs celebration. I started planning for my upcoming wedding anniversary that very week.
I used books from the library, magazine articles and went online to get ideas. I talked to my friends and family members to determine whether to go all out or stick to a budget. I aimed for somewhere in the middle and enlisted some help that is available to anyone.
I rented a room attached to our favorite hotel restaurant for the party. I used an online program to create the invitations and even sent an e-vite from my computer with a link to my event. I printed a beautiful poem and copied the lyrics of a love song to the other side. I decorated the ceiling with helium balloons trailing sparkling ribbons.
My son played a mixed compact disc of music my wife and I love. I made six freestanding collages with pictures I printed from the computer. I used spray glue to affix each photo. I purchased a memory book for everyone to sign but with enough room to write comments. This has become a family keepsake.
We danced, we toasted, and we watched our old movies using new technology. A computer and projector too us on a journey of our shared life. My wife was transformed into the new bride of yesteryear. We took to the floor for the final dance surrounded by the people we loved the most and she started to thank me. I put my finger up to her lips and said: ‘Stop. You had me at ‘you’ll do”.

Bobby Bland Greatest Hits Vol. 2: The ABC-Dunhill/MCA Recordings $2.48 Bobby Bland’s uptown, brass-and-strings-drenched blues kept him on the charts long after gut-bucket kings such as Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters had dropped from black-radio airwaves.
