Drontal – How Worms Get Into Your Dog, And How To Get Them Out

How do you know if your dog has intestinal worms? Reading this article, one would surmise you’re worried – it may really be that your dog has intestinal worms, only that you didn’t’ notice. Here are some ways and means to find out if your dog is infected by what kind of intestinal worm.

Does your dog have whipworms – check its poop

Poop and in dirt are the primary vectors for whipworms – infested animals tend to have whipworm eggs in their poop, which in turn seep into soil. Just the same, whipworms are not easy to detect. Cant’ find any eggs in the poop? The look for these outward signs – recurring diarrhea that may have blood in them), obvious weight loss, anemia, a swollen large intestine (or colitis, hard to detect). Check your dog’s poop for blood and whipworms eggs. You’ll have to check a lot of poop just to be sure, since the eggs may not be there each time – best to have your pet checked by a vet.

Does your dog have roundworms – unhealthy physical signs, clues in the poop

Dogs and young pups infected with roundworms usually have diarrhea and vomit a lot, and this condition may cause them to have that unpleasant-looking pot-belly appearance. Two to four inches long – that’s how long roundworms are – and they have this white spaghetti-like appearance. Again, they can pass along into your dog’s leavings. You can’t miss this. Roundworms aren’t life-threatening, but do cause your dog discomfort. It’s best not to take chances and just have your dog checked up; you never know if the unhealthy appearance may be caused by something apart from the worms.

How about hookworms – diarrhea, rashes on their feet, and some other signs

Hookworms can cause itchy feet in dogs, or a rash on their feet, some noticeable wheezing when they breathe and some recurrent coughing, abdominal cramps, recurrent diarrhea, and black or bloody poop. Left untreated, dogs with hookworms can suffer from anemia and may die. Pups are especially defenseless. You should consult your vet, as hookworms are hard to find even with a close examination of a suspected dog poop.

Hunting for tapeworms in your dog – itching on the anus spot, abdominal discomfort, and other signs

If your dog has tapeworm, then some segments of that worm may be found in the poop. These will look like small grains of rice, uncooked rice – small, flat, and wide. One other sign is when your dog has to have its behind rubbing against the floor – that’s hard to miss, too. Tapeworms cause the anal area of the infected dog to be itchy.

Deworming your dog and pet health – take your vet’s advice seriously

Worm treatment must be repeated over and over until every dormant and live larvae and all the eggs die. Of course, you administer this only under your vet’s supervision following a deworming program that’s prescribed – the dewormer must fit your dog’s weight and how bad the infection is.

One trusted dewormer is Drontal Plus Chewable All-Wormer. Because it’s liver-flavored, it’s easy to administer. All major gastro-intestinal worms – hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, and tapeworms – are handled by this treatment. You can buy Drontal online or through your trusted vet.
