How to calm a cat down to cut nails and comb?

We have a long hair cat 2yr old. Her hair gets matted up and when we try to comb or brush her, she gets…shall we say “ticked off” and has a temper tantrum. The hair between her toes is long as well and it’s very hard to clip her nails. Is there something we can give her to calm her down or knock her out for a few min?

My cat used to be like this. My mom would have to wrap a towel around his eyes so he couldn’t see what we were doing. You have to let him/her know you are in charge, and that you can overpower them, just as you would with a child.
